High-Security Keys vs Standard Keys
A standard edge-cut key has cuts along the outer edge and can be duplicated on a simple wheel machine. A high-security laser key carries a milled track down the centre of the blade.
The laser design resists picking and bumping, tolerates far more insertions before wear, and cannot be copied on typical hardware-store equipment.
Cutting to code from the VIN produces a key matched to factory depths rather than to a worn original — worth doing if your current key already feels loose.
Most vehicles built after roughly 2010 use some form of high-security blade, often combined with a transponder or proximity system.
